What Is the New INFINITI VISION QE?

What Is the New INFINITI VISION Qe?

The new INFINITI VISION Qe is what's known as a "concept car." These vehicles are showpieces that preview a brand's vision, hence the "VISION" in this model's name. Concept cars influence future car designs. In this case, the VISION Qe will guide the upcoming INFINITI EV lineup. The first model to join that lineup will be almost entirely based on the VISION Qe concept's styling language.

The new INFINITI VISION Qe is more of a sculpture than a real car, and it was chiseled by the masters on the INFINITI global design team under three Japanese design principles:

  • Kabuku: Literally translated as "to slant" or "to wane," Kabuku in this context means "to be distinctive and extraordinary." Everything about the VISION Qe fits that definition.
  • Sho: Dynamic. Moving. Fast. The INFINITI VISION Qe lives up to the Sho philosophy by being a sleek work of art that looks as if it's moving, even when it's standing still.
  • Sui: "Water" is one translation of this word, and it certainly fits the VISION Qe's flowing body lines. However, in this context, Sui refers to an aesthetic principle based on purity and sophistication.

While these principles are the lights that guide the new INFINITI VISION Qe, this model is a guiding light in and of itself.

The concept car itself is not quite a sedan. However, the first road-legal INFINITI EV available at dealerships will be a sedan that draws inspiration from the new INFINITI VISION Qe. While, in Tokyo, there was already a full launch of the INFINITI VISION Qe, release date details on the INFINITI EV lineup are not yet available.

If you're heading to Japan on vacation, you can visit the brand's headquarters in Yokohama and take a look at the new INFINITI VISION Qe concept in person right now.

Design Details of the New INFINITI VISION Qe Concept

Nothing about the new INFINITI VISION Qe concept is ordinary. The body lines look as though they're ready to leap off the road and take flight. The wheels are eye-catching and futuristic; their spokes are representations of the inner workings of an EV's electric motor. The paint, known as "Shadow Blue," is also special.

With this deep blue base color interacting with a warm gold pearlescent coat, a theme for future new INFINITI cars becomes apparent.

And that's true for the "grille," too. It riffs on the "double arch" theme of past INFINITI vehicles but flips it, enlarges it, and draws it out with slashes of golden light. The headlights flow into a sharp lip with further lines of golden light that can be interpreted as the feathers of a Japanese crested ibis.

All of this plays into the three themes discussed earlier and ties the new INFINITI VISION Qe concept together.

This front end is also an inspiration for the redesigned new INFINITI QX80, which should arrive by the end of 2024. The taillights are a similar unbroken line of light. The body of the VISION Qe sharpens into an extreme edge at the front and rear end, creating a beak-like look that, along with the feather-like cues and flight-inspired lines, completes the cohesive design theme.

These design cues make the VISION Qe a sculpture on wheels, but they are also functional – aerodynamic optimization is a natural result of these artistic elements, which can elevate an EV's range to new heights. From the flow of light into the fenders to the animated light sequences that accompany it, the new INFINITI VISION Qe concept is a graceful introduction to what the next-generation new INFINITI QX60 and first-ever INFINITI EVs will look like.
